Isolepis
is a large genus in Tasmania, with 18 native and three naturalised
species. These include a number of tufted terrestrial species (often
of boggy areas) and some rooted aquatics with floating leaves.
They are all characterised by having quite slender stems and leaves,
and clusters of flowers/fruit at the ends of the stems, but
subtended by a stem-like leaf that appears to be an extension of the
stem.
Isolepis is one of the Tasmanian genera that were once
included in Scirpus. Ficinia nodosa was
until recently
recognised as a species of Isolepis. It is much more robust
than any Tasmanian species of Isolepis.
Bolboschoenus and
Schoenoplectus are the others. |
