Tasmania
has two native species of Eucryphia. Leatherwood (E.
lucida) is a common rainforest tree in western Tasmania, and is
one of the mainstays of the local honey industry. Mountain (or dwarf)
leatherwood (E. milliganii) ranges in size from a low shrub
to a small tree. It is restricted to the
south-western third of the island and occurs in rainforest, alpine
areas and wet scrub. The two species differ mainly in size - E.
lucida has leaves more than 2.5 cm long, E. milliganii
has shorter leaves. |
