Sprengelia (Ericaceae) 2:454 |

|
Tasmania has a number of native species of Sprengelia.
These
species superficially resemble some Richea
species in habit, particularly the sheathing leaves. However, they
are not closely related. The diagnostic differences are the flowers
with very short corolla tubes and wide, spreading lobes, and lack of
leaf scars around the stems. These are all native shrubs that grown in peat. The most widespread
species, S. incarnata and S. propinqua, are common and widespread in
heaths and sedgeland. The others are smaller species. S.
montana is more common, and most obviously differs from S.
incarnata in being smaller. S. distichophylla has leaves in two
ranks, rather than spiral. |
