Tasmania
has six introduced species Euphorbia (spurges). Some of these
are common weeds in gardens and waste ground (e.g. E. peplus and
E. helioscopia). Sea spurge (E. paralias) is invading
large areas of sandy coastline.
The flowers are extremely reduced and, in all species in
Tasmania, microscopic. They are clustered in small flower-like
inflorescences.
The genus also includes spiny, leafless succulents that are
strongly convergent with cacti, but none of these species are
naturalised in Tasmania.
