Alder (Alnus cordata),
and silver birch (Betula pendula) have
been naturalised in Tasmania. These are small to medium sized deciduous
trees with toothed leaves. The most conspicuous features are the female inflorescences,
which are dense catkins, resembling cylindrical conifer cones.
