This
family is mainly from South Africa and the Northern Hemisphere, but a few species of Geranium
and Pelargonium are native to Tasmania. These low growing small
herbs or subshrubs have rounded leaves, often with palmate lobes.
They occur in a wide range of habitats, including wet and dry forests,
coasts and alpine areas. Erodium species are widespread as
garden and agricultural weeds, and garden escaped Pelargonium
species can be found. The flowers of all species are reasonably showy.
