About
fifteen species of this family are native to Tasmania. They include
both shrubs (some species of the genus Goodenia) and herbs
from several genera. They occur in a wide range of habitats - from
saltmarsh to wet and dry forests to alpine herbfields. The flowers
are asymmetrical and the corolla lobes of most genera are more or
less triangular. All genera except Selliera have corolla lobes
with thinner wings on either side. In Velleia the ovary is
superior, in the other genera it is inferior.
