Austroscyphus (Balantiopsidaceae)

Austroscyphus is leafy liverwort genus with one representative in Tasmania, A. phoenicorhizus. This species was previously known as Neesioscyphus phoenicorhizus.

A. phoenicorhizus is a small and uncommon liverwort of subalpine habitats. The shoots have a glossy appearance and more untidy mats. The leaves are concave and succubously inserted onto the stem. Probably the most distinctive feature of this liverwort is the crimson rhizoids.
