Herbertus is a genus of leafy liverworts. In
Tasmania, Herbertus is represented by a single
species, H. oldfieldianus.
H. oldfieldianus is an uncommon liverwort of subalpine
habitats. The leaves are transversely inserted onto the stem and
deeply divided to more than halfway into the leaf lamina. Most
distinctively, each leaf lobe possesses a vitta (i.e a band of
expanded cells running almost the entire length of the middle of the
leaf lobe).
