Anastrophyllum is represented by Anastrophyllum
schismoides in Tasmania. The species occurs as an epiphyte in
wet forest or rainforest. It can also be found at higher altitudes
growing among other herbfield plants. In those instances, the
reddish color and millipede-like appearance of the species should
sufficiently distinguish it in the field. The leaves can also be
greenish in less exposed conditions. The tips of the shoots
often curl up in a distinctive fashion. The cells have large
and often merging trigones and 2-8 colorless oil bodies.
