Drepanolejeunea is a largely tropical genus of minute leafy liverworts. In
Tasmania, the genus is represented by a single species, D.
aucklandica. This small species is a very common epiphyte in
rainforest and is often found growing among other bryophytes.
D.
aucklandica may be confused with Austrolejeunea hamata
but the former has a large dark modified oil body (ocelli) occupying
a cell at the leaf base of the leaves. D.
aucklandica also superficially resembles Harpalejeunea
latitans but may be distinguished from this species by the
morphology of the lobe and underleaf.
A form of D. aucklandica (D. aff. aucklandica)
with shorter leaf lobes may also occur in Tasmania and might
prove to be a different species.
