There are 4 species of Lepidolaena in Tasmania, all of which
are uncommon rainforest species. Lepidolaena species are
often found creeping on tree trunks or hanging from twigs as a pendant
life-form.
The underleaves of Lepidolaena are divided into 4 narrow lobes, distinguishing it from the closely related
Gackstroemia,
which have 2-lobed underleaves. The lobules of Lepidolaena
also lack the spine that may be seen on
Gackstroemia.
A key to the species of Lepidolaena is still under
development.
