Telaranea is a morphologically diverse genus of leafy liverworts and in Tasmania is represented by 18 species.

With the exception of a few species, most Telaranea spp. are minute prostrate plants found in a variety of habitats. Diagnostically, the stems of Telaranea spp. have inflated cells.

The taxonomy of Tasmanian Telaranea are in need of revision.
