Leptophyllopsis is a rather small leafy liverwort genus which
in Tasmania is represented by a single species, L. laxus.
L. laxus plants sometimes form loose mats but are more
often found growing amongst other bryophytes. The leaves of L.
laxus are succubously inserted onto the stem but may sometimes
appear longitudinally inserted. The leaves also fragments easily at
the apices and have a rainbow sheet due to the bulging of the cell
walls. The cells contain numerous smooth oil bodies. This
species has never been seen in a fruiting state.
