Gemmabryum is a genus recently split from Bryum and in
Tasmania is represented by 12 species. Some species like G.
dichotomum have easily visible bulbil-like gemmae (asexual
propagules) in the leaf axes.
G. pachytheca is
probably one of the most attractive and distinctive of the genus,
the acorn-like capsule alone being quite sufficient for a positive
identification.
