Ochiobryum is a moss genus and in
Tasmania is represented by a single species,
Ochiobryum blanda (previously
Bryum blandum). Although capsules are very rare, a
combination of habitat and overall appearance makes O. blanda
possibly the most easily identified member of the Bryaceae.
O. blanda is very common in aquatic to semi-aquatic
environments, forming cushions or mats in streams, waterfalls and
bogs, even fountains in gardens.
The leaves are concave and tongue-shaped, with a rounded apex
that tends to split when mounted on a glass slide under a coverslip.
