BUXBAUMIACEAE

In Tasmania, the Buxbaumiaceae is represented by a single genus, Buxbaumia with one or two recorded species.

B. aphylla is a rare leafless terrestrial moss. When sterile, the plant body consists of algal-like filaments called protonema. The capsules are asymmetrical.

The existence of the second species, B. tasmanica is uncertain.
