The Catagoniaceae is represented by a single species Catagonium
nitens (previously C. politum) in Tasmania. This common
moss occurs in glossy yellowish-green or dark green patches on rocks
or the ground in wet forest and rainforests. The leaves are
boat-shaped and overlapping, giving the shoots a flat, plane
appearance.
