Ceratodon (Ditrichaceae)

Ceratodon is represented in Tasmania by the cosmopolitan moss C. purpureus, commonly known as fire moss. C. purpureus is an primary colonizer and can colonize immense areas after a bushfire. It is otherwise also very common in urban areas and roadsides. In fruit, C. purpureus is readily recognizable by their red seta.
