Pleuridium is represented in Tasmania by a single species.
P. nervosum is a small non-descript moss but is
immediately recognizable when fruiting. It forms turfs on bare
ground. The leaves have strong nerves, are are ovate to ovate-lanceolate
and overlaps closely on the stem. Capsules are near globular, orange
brown, and borne on a very short stalk which is hidden from sight by
the long leaves subtending the capsule.
Two other species P. arnoldii and P. lampropyxis
may also occur in Tasmania but are excluded here till further
information is available.
