The Leptostomaceae in Tasmania is represented by a single species,
Leptostomum inclinans.
L. inclinans is a common and conspicuous
cushion-forming moss that is found on a variety of substrates but
most often occurs as epiphytes or on rocks.
Characteristically, the capsules often point downwards. The shoots
bear dense red-brownish rhizoids and the leaves end in a long hairpoint.
This species was previously placed under the Bryaceae.
