Tetrapterum (Pottiaceae)

In Tasmania, Tetrapterum is represented by two species, T. cylindricum and T. weymouthii.

T. cylindricum is a free-fruiting moss that typically forms low dense turfs on bare earth. The beautifully colored capsules which are held just above the leaves are probably the most distinctive feature of this moss.

Little is known of T. weymouthii (previously Phascum weymouthii).
