The Rhacocarpaceae is a family of mosses which in
Tasmania is represented by Rhacocarpus purpurascens. In
Tasmania, R. purpurascens is typically found partially
submerged in alpine tarns but interestingly is also found in great
abundance on vertical surfaces of rocks Cataract Gorge. R. purpurascens
superficially resembles
Hedwigidium integrifolium but the
leaf tips of the latter species lack the characteristic long
hairpoints.
