This
small family is represented in Tasmania by a few native species of
Callitriche and one widespread introduced species (C.
stagnalis). These are small, soft, low growing herbs with
rounded, opposite leaves, usually with 3-5 longitudinal veins. The
flowers are small and unisexual. Some
species are aquatic, others are terrestrial and grow in forest understoreys
or open areas.
