Ribes
sanguineum (currant) is the only species of this family in the
Tasmanian flora. This garden escaped plant is a deciduous shrub with
broad serrate margined often lobed, leaves and pendulous racemes of
edible fruit in summer and autumn. The leaves are pleasantly
aromatic.
The flowers are very distinctive - the five large sepals, five
small petals and five stamens are all attached to a coloured tube
that resembles a corolla tube. |
