The
Urticaceae in Tasmania include some native and some introduced herb
species. The best known are stinging nettles (Urtica species),
with their stinging hairs. However, the other genera (e.g. Australina,
Soleirolia and Parietaria) do not have stinging hairs.
The family has abundant, very small, usually unisexual flowers
