Tasmania
has one species of Telopea. Telopea tuncata is an erect shrub or
small tree. The scarlet flowers in heads (strictly speaking,
compressed spikes) are unmistakable. The fruit are also distinctive
- long, curved pod-like woody follicles that contain numerous winged
seeds, that overlap like tiles.
