Plantago tasmanica is a widespread and quite common native species of alpine and subalpine areas of eastern and central Tasmania. It has no taproot, but has thick spreading lateral roots. The leaves are held flat to the ground in a rosette, and are 1 - 6 cm long. They are quite thick, generally quite hairy, and have a short, broad petiole.
