Tasmania has
three native species of Hierochloe. These are two subalpine
to alpine species and one lowland forest, east coast species.
These species are all quite large grasses with distinctly broad
leaves (~5mm wide) that form a loose tussock. The inflorescence is a
fairly open panicle of small spikelets. The spikelets have three
flowers- two male and one female or hermaphrodite. They have small
or no awns. The spikelets fall off leaves the glumes in place. |
