Spinifex (Poaceae) 4b:351 |

Tasmania has
one species of Spinifex (not to be confused with the mainland
species commonly called by the same name - they are of different
genera). Spinifex sericeus is a common dune species (although
it appears to be being displaced by
Ammophila and other weeds). It has relatively large leaves
(~30cm long by 1 cm wide). The female inflorescence is very
conspicuous - it is a loose, more-or-less spherical head 20-30 cm in
diameter. |
