Myosurus
australis (Southern Mousetail) is a short-lived annual herb occuring in marginal wetland habitat. The narrow-linear leaves are up to 10 cm long and arranged in a rosette. Several flower stems develop from the base of the plant bearing a single small flower. When fruiting the stems elongate to ~ 10 cm and bear > 100 small fruitlets on a slender spike. This species is rare in Tasmania wih records from only two sites (Southern Midlands and Central Plateau at 400 and 925 m above sea level respectively). It is possible this species has been introduced.
