The
Rubiaceae is one of the largest of plant families, but is not so prominent
in Tasmania. The leaves are either opposite or in whorls, and are
simple and entire. The flowers in Tasmanian species are small. The
native Tasmanian species are four wet forest and alpine shrubs in
the genus Coprosma and 15 species of small herbs occurring
in a range of habitats including alpine areas and the understory of
wet and dry forests. Weed species include cleavers (Galium aparine)
and field madder (Sherardia arvensis). Opercularia is
a herb with flowers in dense heads. |
