Elodea
canadensis (Canadian pondweed)
is a commonly cultivated species of fishponds and aquaria, but has
escaped to become a common and troublesome aquatic weed of ponds and streams in Tasmania. It
grows submerged, and forms a tangled mass of stems. The leaves are
soft and
in whorls of three (two on lower branches). It resembles its
relative Egeria densa, but has
thinner stems and smaller leaves and flowers. |
