Tasmania has
six native species of Hymenophyllum. These filmy ferns grow
in the understorey of wet forest, often as epiphytes or on rocks or
logs. Like all filmy ferns they have membranous leaf laminas (only
1-cell thick and translucent). As a genus, they can only be
confused with Crepidmanes venosum,
which can be simply differentiated from Hymenophyllum by having leaf lobes with branched veins. |
