Grammitis gunnii (=Grammitis species B; Grammitidaceae)

Grammitis gunnii is an uncommon native alpine fern. It grows on dolerite rocks. It has the typical thick unlobed leaves of Grammitis species, but these are only a few cm long. The key feature that distinguishes it from similar species in the alpine zone is the type of hairs. G. gunnii has simple hairs on the lower surface, including among the sporangia. G. poeppigiana has forked hairs, G. billardieri and G. magellanica have no hairs.
