Tasmania has
one species of Eriochilus (E. cucullatus or
Parson's Bands). This is a moderate-sized, erect ground
orchid that is widespread and common in heath, woodland and moorland
in Tasmania. It has a single, relatively broad, ground hugging
leaf (that is often absent at the time of flowering). The erect
stems carry between one and five moderate sized flowers (up to 2cm
wide). The white or pink lower sepals are the conspicuous part of
the flowers. |
