Distinguishing features: A small to medium sized subalpine tree with smooth bark with reddish patches, thick ovate leaves with slightly wavy margins and with a strong "Eucalyptus" smell. Capsules 6 - 9 mm in diameter. Forms clines with E johnstonii at one extreme and E. vernicosa at the other.
