The University of Tasmania is reacting to the call for more Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) graduates by proposing to build a STEM precinct in the Hobart CBO. The University, like many others, sees STEM as an agent of change. Cynics among us may see it as a passing fad that should be ignored. This provocation with explore both perspectives by questioning how the Faculty of Education should respond to the new UTAS innovative and the more broader national strategic approach to STEM, which have implications for teacher education in Tasmania. Examples from the Modelling with Data: Advancing STEM in the Curriculum project, will be used to illustrate what can be achieved in schools.
This seminar will take the form of a discussion and sharing of ideas. Come along!
