Since joining the EAFU network, the University of Tasmania has supported over 200 Elite Athletes achieve tertiary success while also competing at events such as the Commonwealth Games, world championships, national events and University games.
The University of Tasmania Elite Athlete Program exists to support students who compete in elite level sport.
If you strive for excellence in your sport and tertiary studies, the University of Tasmania will support you achieving your goals.
Those Athletes who are a member of one of the following organisations as an ‘elite athlete’ or ‘elite coach:
Those Athletes holding an individual National Ranking inside the top 15; at the discretion of UTAS Sport for sports unrecognised by Sport Australia.
Those Athletes who received an individual medal in a Division 1 event in the previous year’s UniSport Nationals Competition or are selected as part of the 2023 University Basketball League squads.
Those Athletes selected as a member of a State team that will be competing at the National Championships, or was a member in 2022 and is vying for selection in 2023.
Those athletes who compete or have been selected to compete in a National Sporting Organisation affiliated national competition at senior or reserve level.
Those athletes who hold a top 3 individual ranking for the state/territory in their sport; at the discretion of UTAS Sport for sports unrecognised by Sport Australia.
Those athletes who compete internationally in their chosen sport and is supported by an official body in doing so.

*The Elite Athlete Program Coordinator will assess your application in-line with the Eligibility Criteria.
*If you have been assessed to not meet the eligibility criteria, you may request that your application is reviewed by an independent panel.
*UTAS Sport reserves the right to promote or demote a student subject to their ongoing performanc
How to apply
- - Do you compete in high level sport and believe you meet the meet the eligibility criteria for the program?
- - Have you been accepted into your University of Tasmania course and received your Student ID?
- - Do you have evidence to support your level of sporting commitments (e.g. Letter of Endorsement, letter of selection, email confirming your selection)?
- - Are you ready to upload a high resolution photo of yourself in a sporting environment (make sure your face can be seen)?
Upon submission of the application form, the University of Tasmania's Elite Athlete Program Coordinator will process your application based on the eligibility criteria.
Elite Sports Scholarship
There are five Elite Sports Scholarships available valued at $5,000 each for both commencing and current students, including one for a student who identifies as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. The University of Tasmania introduced these scholarships in 1992 to help outstanding student athletes achieve their sporting and academic goals.
TIS HECS Scholarship
Take advantage of a professional or personal development opportunity with a HECS scholarship. As an Elite Athlete Friendly University, the University of Tasmania has signed a memorandum of understanding with the TIS committing to a collaboration that prepares and provides ongoing support and learning opportunities for high performance athletes and staff of the Tasmanian Institute of Sport.
