Elsewhere in the World / Expanded Field

I recall the vitality of my world as an emerging artist during the late 1970’s, exploring the printmaking medium and resolving to find a special balance in my art and life. My exploration of the print medium ran parallel with increasingly adventurous forays into mountainous areas of SE Australia and the new work tended to reflect the relationship between my mountain walking experiences and the work on the copper plate and screen mesh. An overarching concept in the artwork was a concern for the environment as the onslaught on the ‘wild places’ ramped up.

Fifty years later I strive to find a similar balance by living and working in the Western mountains of Tasmania in the mining community of Queenstown. I feel artists have a role in ‘facing’ damaged country, being present in the ruins and creating a role in its repair.

The forum will chart my artistic journey through landscape.
