Van Gogh's Grasshopper

Perhaps more than any other artist, Van Gogh’s life has long captured the imagination of storytellers. Delving deep into his fascinating and sometimes deeply troubled world comes this definitive, award-winning documentary Vincent van Gogh: A New Way of Seeing directed by David Bickerstaff.

Following the screening, Chris Arneaud-Clarke from the University of Tasmania’s School of Creative Arts and Media, will offer a slightly different take on the question of what we look for in art. This special presentation will consider the Van Gogh painting, Olive Trees (1889), which achieved renewed fame in 2017 when conservators found a long-dead grasshopper embedded in its swirls of paint.
