Brenda Mooney is a PhD candidate from the School of Natural Sciences (Chemistry) UTAS. With an undergraduate degree in Biology and Environmental Science (University of Newcastle), she has worked in Chemistry related roles for over 20 years in areas of natural products, environmental regulation and water treatment. Inspired by the coloured banks of the Queen River, Brenda’s current project integrates scientific and artist techniques to better read the complexities, with a view to enhance desirable qualities in iron rich sludges from the mining impacted region of Queenstown TAS.

Brenda’s talk is about problematic iron sludges in the environment, interpreting their chemical signatures, enhancing pigmentation and magnetism attributes and importance of multidisciplinary to the project.

Kerrie Warren was born in Melbourne Australia in 1968.  The artist moved location regularly as a child and experienced a transient lifestyle, believing this might have inspired the wondrous sense of movement and rhythm she strives to achieve in her artwork today.

In 2016 Warren completed her Masters of Contemporary Art at the Victorian College of the Arts, The University of Melbourne. An experience which provided an academic opportunity for her to critically analyse the philosophy behind her practice.

Within the creative process itself, the artist allows intuition to be the guiding factor toward direction and meaning within the work – which includes paintings, ceramics and installation.

The natural environment has a significant influence and scales are often expanded in direct response to the overwhelming sensation she experiences whilst trying to comprehend the ‘bigger picture’ and find her own place within it.
