The Ceramics Studio at the University of Tasmania, School of Creative Arts and Media was driven with passion and a love of imaginative expression by the late Emeritus Professor Vincent McGrath.  Sadly, Vincent passed away from brain cancer in July 2012.  He was instrumental in laying the foundations for the practice of ceramics to hold itself in a prominent position at the University of Tasmania.

His poetic understandings of a lived Landscape migrated from his journal drawings to the surface of his ceramic objects. The back and forth relationship between the surface and form is the tangent space that enabled Vincent to break through potential limits of ceramics as a medium.

This retrospective will exhibit paintings alongside ceramic works that Professor McGrath produced in the fading months of his life.

Presented by the Academy Gallery in partnership with the Australian Ceramics Triennale, Hobart and the School of Creative Arts and Media, University of Tasmania.

Gallery Hours | Monday - Friday 9.00am - 5.00pm | Free Admission
