Sixty Years of the Antarctic Treaty

This is the first of two Australian Institute of International Affairs events this year focusing on 60 Years of the Antarctic Treaty, discussing its achievements, challenges and looking forward to what comes next. Antarctica is a very special case in international relations and these events, preceding a major international symposium in Hobart at the end of the year, will raise the frozen continent's public profile as we move forward.

• Dr Julia Jabour, Senior Lecturer in Law and Policy, Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies, on The Antarctic Treaty System and the 60th Anniversary of the Treaty.
• Dr Andrew Jackson, Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies, on The Biggest Change in the System: The rejection of mining in favour of the environment.
• Moderated by Professor Rufus Black, Vice-Chancellor, University of Tasmania.
