Professor James VickersThe greatest risk factor for dementia is age. However, there is evidence that approximately a third of cases may be avoided if several potentially modifiable risk factors are addressed. This presentation examines the current state of research on dementia risk, and outlines educational and research opportunities that may assist in reducing susceptibility to this neurodegenerative condition.

Distinguished Professor James Vickers is Director of the Wicking Dementia Centre in Hobart. His interests include neurodegenerative disease and traumatic brain injury. He is a board member of the aged care provider, Glenview Community Services, which is building a new form of residential care specifically for people with dementia.
