On October 1st this year the People’s Republic of China will celebrate the 70th Anniversary of its founding.  Emeritus Professor Colin Mackerras will discuss China’s development since the founding of New China 70 years ago.  Through his own account, he will reflect on the positive and negative economic, social, political and cultural changes that have taken place in China.

Professor Mackerras first lived in China from 1964 to 1966 and has revisited the country some seventy times.  He has widely researched the history, theatre, and ethnic minorities within China.

Colin Patrick Mackerras AO is an Australian sinologist, Emeritus Professor at Griffith University, and specialist in Chinese culture. He has published on Chinese drama, national minorities of China, Australian-Chinese relations and images of China in the West.
