The 2020 Young Tassie Scientists program will be delivered online, with the scientists sharing their stories through short videos on the website.  Teachers can request a ‘Virtual Visit’, bringing Young Tassie Scientists into the classroom.  You can meet Matt, the ornithologist who works with emu poo; investigate carnivorous plants with Kelsey the plant scientist; and investigate how your brain works with neuroscientist Silvia!


The Young Tassie Scientists program involves a team of early career researchers and scientists who are passionate about their work and can connect with audiences of all ages.

Young Tassie Scientists volunteer time to share their research and their stories with schools and communities around Tasmania during National Science Week. The Young Tassie Scientists team are dynamic and inspiring role models who aim to engage and motivate students, showing the connections between studying science and resulting jobs and careers.

The 2020 Young Tassie Scientists program will be delivered online, with the scientists sharing their stories short videos on the website, youngtassiescientists.com.  You can meet Matt, the ornithologist who works with emu poo; investigate carnivorous plants with Kelsey the plant scientist; and investigate how your brain works with neuroscientist Silvia!

Teachers can request a ‘Virtual Visit’, bringing Young Tassie Scientists into your classroom using Zoom video conferencing. Your students will be able to interact with the scientists and ask them questions directly. These ‘Virtual Visits’ are best suited for grades 4-12. Applications are open until midnight on Friday 31 July, with Virtual Visits scheduled from 17-27 August 2020.
