Summary:

At the December Philosophy in the Pub we will consider the question: What is the point of studying the Humanities?

What is the point of studying the Humanities?

The Australian Government has recently passed legislation that will increase the cost that students pay to study the Humanities at university (excluding subjects such as English and other languages). Depending on the exact choices students make, a degree studying in the Humanities could cost domestic students up to $14,500 per year.

So a BA could cost a student over $40,000. So what is the point?

Spoiler alert: there is a point to studying the Humanities. But do come to the Launceston Philosophy in the Pub to discuss this important issue!

The Launceston Philosophy in the Pub is a regular opportunity for members of the community to meet and discuss, in some depth, a philosophical topic of their own choosing. The discussion is hosted by philosophers from University of Tasmania as part of the University’s ongoing engagement with the broader community.
