SJ Book v2

For many people, engaging with journalism and current affairs can take an emotional toll. Amidst rising rates of news avoidance and fatigue, journalists are being called upon to report more solutions and success stories. In his new book, Solutions Journalism, Dr Bill Dodd explores optimist styles of reporting, focusing on 'New Tasmania' discourses. This book explores patterns of news access and the framing of leadership and expertise to draw lessons about how to democratise solutions reporting and distribute realistic optimism more equitably through society. Drawing upon positive psychology and the sociology of journalism, this book offers a blueprint for solutions journalism founded on a nuanced understanding of hope, and plurality of leadership and expertise.

To discuss these findings, Dr Dodd is joined by leading journalist and Guardian Australia's environment editor, Adam Morton. Dr Claire Konkes (Head of Media) will facilitate the discussion, and explore new and more sustainable models of journalism.
