Join a conversation with Australia’s Ambassador to China, Graham Fletcher, and Austrade’s General Manager for Greater China, Daniel Boyer. The event will be moderated from Hobart by Kim Boyer, Australian Institute of International Affairs Tasmania state president.

Ambassador Fletcher will provide an update from the Australian Embassy in Beijing on the current status of the Australia-China relationship and some of the pressing issues around trade, investment and broader bilateral relations. Daniel Boyer will discuss the implications for business, some of the megatrends that will shape China’s economy in the coming years and their impact on Australia’s commercial engagement.

Fletcher HeadshotGraham Fletcher took up the post of Ambassador to China in August 2019. He is a career officer of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. His recent roles in Canberra include heading the North Asia Division (2008-10, 2015-19) and completing the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement (2014). His earlier postings were Washington DC (2011-13), Beijing (1986-88; 1997-00, 2004-08) and Noumea (1992-94). He has a degree in History from the University of Sydney.

Boyer HeadshotDaniel Boyer is Austrade's General Manager, Greater China, based in Beijing. Daniel leads a team of 111 staff across nine offices delivering high quality trade and investment services to companies in Australia and Greater China. He joined Austrade in 2014, most recently leading the Government and Partnerships division. In his time at Austrade, Daniel has held a number of senior roles, including leading the reorganisation and restructure of the agency as the General Manager of the Positioning for our Future project. Prior to moving to Austrade, Daniel worked in a number of Australian Government Agencies, most recently in Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP). Daniel’s positions in DIBP included Regional Director East Asia, responsible for visa operations across North Asia and the Mekong economies, also based in Beijing.
